Two large Pitch Pines in eastern Howard County, 4 October 2013

Another view of two large Pitch Pines in eastern Howard County, 4 October 2013

The larger tree is on the right.  These trees are growing right near the border with Anne Arundel County and near the CSX railroad tracks. Fittingly, two Pine Warblers were singing in the area.

Large Pitch Pine, Pinus rigida, 4 October 2013

The biggest tree is almost 4 feet in diameter at the base of the trunk. Usually much smaller in this area, Pitch Pines are mostly found on the Coastal Plain in Howard County.
